I’m Samantha Meyer and this will be my first year at Ross ES and in DCPS. A new school year is always exciting, and I am looking forward to getting to know and work with you all. The school and its staff maintains an excellent reputation and I am enthusiastic to be able to contribute to the team.
A few things about me and my family: I grew up in Montgomery County and attended Walt Whitman High School, class of 2002. I danced (ballet, jazz, modern, hip hop) through high school and into college, and I still love it. My parents used to live near by, but recently moved to Brooklyn, NYC. I have two brothers, Josh and Bryan. Both live in New York City and still give me a hard time as brothers do. My older brother, Josh, is a lawyer. He and his wife Sara have identical twin girls, Abby and Dylan, who will be starting third grade this September. My younger brother, Bryan, is a filmmaker and has a wonderful wife, Alex, and their corgi, Maxine. I am thankful for their support and encouragement, and from my husband, Richard too. We just celebrated our one year anniversary on July 8, 2018.
My educational experience has had a few twists and turns along the way. I began my undergraduate work at Tulane University, but was forced to leave during Hurricane Katrina. With New Orleans abandoned, I returned to the Washington D.C. area to complete my senior year at American University, where I earned my BA in public communications. After a short academic break, I turned toward Nashville to begin graduate school at Vanderbilt University, where I received my master’s degree in Elementary Education in 2010. Most recently, I completed my Administration Certification through Hood College.
Before coming to Ross ES to teach fourth and fifth grade Math and Science, I taught fourth grade for three years at Carderock Springs ES in Bethesda, MD and I taught second grade for five years at Flower Valley ES in Rockville.
I look forward to meeting and working with you all!
